What happened...

I must really apologise for being such a bad blogger. It's been more than 1/2 a year since my last post. SO much had happened. I went to Europe (Switzerland and Paris). Love it there!

Shifted into my own flat! It was more than a year of saving money, planning and now it's the final touches of packing and decorating.

I left my job of 5 years. A job that I love and I miss my colleagues a lot. But I am doing it so that I have a chance of pursuing my passions of fashion and make up. So I am looking for a job now. Wish me luck :)

In the mean time, I have set up a blog with a friend who is in Sweden now. Check Ftashion@blogspot.com out. :)

I have also started posting in chictopia and took up DIY projects like making accessories. Life is exciting. :) Hope to be blogging more often now.

Liberation and disspointments

I'm back! Recently work had been so hectic that I could hardly breath and now I finally feel liberated. Thank you so much for showing your love to The Banana Legs, she is happily sitting on my laundry hangers and yearn for a next outing. :P

I hardly had anytime to dress up or take any pictures the past week. But before this hectic period I did go for some thrift shopping and did not post my finds. So with liberation I decided to picture and launder them tonight since they have been sitting there for so long.

This beautiful navy silk dress is apparently from Chloe, and this lady at the flea market told me it is brand new but a factory reject. However, I cannot take long sleeves in this weather so I hecked the sleeves off.

Dissapointment 1) An idea initially beautiful did not turn out that fine. Sigh, due to my bad sewing skills when trying to hide the seams at the armhole. Now I wonder if I should have let the beautiful sleeves stay with the dress. Alas, no turning back, as the sleeves are rather ruined.

My next find is this beautiful long crochet vest like and dress like thing I found at Salvation Army. I intended to wear it over a slip and attend my friend's wedding that is coming this weekend. So, I brought it for a wash as the texture felt a bit funny.

Dissapointment 2) I have too little experience washing vintage items and I washed it in soap and warm water. To my HORROR, it SHRUNK! Now it's 2 inches shorter and could hardly be worn as a dress! I almost wanted to cry out, I ruined 2 beautiful dress in one night! I wonder if it would be longer when it's dry? Anyone have advise on how to launder vintage clothes?

My last find is this beautiful velvet bolero jacket with an amazing beading at the cuffs, and the edges are lined with beautiful black trimmings.

I initially wanted to remove the beads as I had no idea what kind of look the beads can match with. However, they look just so beautiful that I just can't help but admire. I did not dare to launder it yet as I have no idea how it would turn out. Any suggestions? Also, any suggestions on how to wear this? Or, should I just sell it to someone who love the jacket more than me? Hmmm...

Boy and Me (and my DIY dress)

7 years ago we first held hands at East Coast Park, taking our first step into this beautiful relationship.

7 years later on this very same day and same place, we took our oath to love each other for the rest of our lives.

This is the story of boy and me. We met in University, he was my senior in Taekwondo. 1 year after, we decided that we were more than just friends and started the 7 year courtship. When deciding when and where to hold our marriage registration, the answer was quite clear. To hold it at the same date and place where it all started.

So on 090909, it's where we start our drive to new life!


Knowing that I would still have a traditional chinese wedding next year. Almost everything for my outdoor ROM is DIY by me, for I wanted to enjoy the process by getting more involved.

I sent out personalised invitations I made ( you can see from previous posts). I decorated the place with flowers and sashes I bought form Arab street. I bought fresh flowers and made my own bouquet. I bought lollipop and decorated with butterfly clips as wedding favours (can be seen from previous posts too). Most IMPORTANTLY (and INSANELY) I made my own dress and my headpiece.

I started with a base dress (a pure white plain sundress), and sew on chiffon like material and lace. I decorated the bodice with some lace and chiffon scales like pieces. The back of the dress was made to look like some mini terrain, with a slighly longer and flowy piece. The dress is an inspiration I got from something I saw on Etsy with some changes.

I saw many brides on greenweddingshoes having beautiful birdcage headpieces, hence decided to make my own.

All my DIY items were not perfect, but I guess it's the process that I will enjoy and always remember.

Lace fetish DIY- Part 1

I am totally in love with lace, but not the kinky kind of style. Firstly I am still in search of that perfect lace dress that I see on The Snail and the Cyclops and Liebemarlene Vintage. These lovely ladies always have such immeculate taste.

Next, I am in love with peter pan collars and especially the lace kinds. Rhiannon gave me the inspiration to get my own lace collars and add them to my clothes. She did such a lovely job and found such a beautiful collar.

I don't have many beautiful dresses to attach collars too, and neither did I have the luck to find such beautiful collars. But, I must say I am quite satisfied with my 3 lace collar finds in Chinatown. They were ranging from S$4+ to S$7. (I am super tempted to buy more and collar all my clothes!)

I have a few projects I hope to undertake, and to start off I picked the easiest. I have many t-shirts that I am bored with, and thought that the lace collar would spruce up the look a bit.

So...ta dah! I am planning to wear it tomorrow for work. Recently the haze is making the cool September much warmer, so the T-shirt should keep me from melting.

Pre- ROM

This is so funny, posting my pre- ROM items after my ROM. Considering that most of the items for my Chinese Wedding would be prepared by others, I decided that I cannot miss all the fun for ROM hence got my hands down and dirty. Heehee. Well, the items may not be nice, but I think this will leave more memories for me.

Before the ROM we had to go to the registry to confirm details. I am so glad we decided to have our ROM outdoors. If not, we'd be queueing for our turn to go into the room (seen above), just like visiting a doctor at a clinic. I took a chance to take a pic at Fort Canning.

This is a sneak peak of my ROM before the photographer passes me the pictures. I bought artifical flowers from Arab Street, sashes from Chinatown and decorated the venue myself. The only regret is that there wasn't enough sash to make the venue nicer. Oh, my venue was East Coast Park, Castle Beach! I was totally blessed with lovely weather!

I am also revealling my major DIY project that needed my 'Brother'. It's my ROM dress. I bought a base dress, which is a plain white sundress, and sew on cloth bought from Chinatown. The design is inspired from something I found online. You decide if it's a pass or fail project. My flower headpiece was also improved (from my previous posting). My hand bouquet was also DIY with flowers I bought from Cold Storage.

DIY flower accessory

I think all the beautiful accessories I see on people's blogs and on etsy is making me a little mad. Mad enough to take up this DIY job. ROM is coming in less than 1 weeks time and I have decided to make my own head piece, inspired from Green Wedding Shoes.

Unfortunately I do not have nimble fingers nor do I have any good fashion sense. The head piece turned out quite differently from what I hoped for. The netting I got was far too hard to shape and the holes are too small hence it would look funny to design the netting over my face. I then tried to salvage it with little crystals I pasted at the edge of the netting. Now it looks like a little flower and netting cap. Should I wear it for ROM? shucks...........

Think I look like a drug addict in the photos...help... not enough sleep.

Brother's here

I have no date this weekend, sigh, boy is too tired. But a few days ago boy bought me a new toy, a sewing machine! I had wanted to buy one a long time ago, but never got down to doing it. I expressed to him my plan for a new DIY project which needs a sewing machine (I had done my previous projects hand sewing which was so tedious). To my surprise he got me one!

I don't think I'd reveal my project until its successfully done. (Think I have taken up too big a task, but I'd still have to show boy that his buy is worth it) Considering the problems I faced today, I am starting to doubt its completion. Well. I will perserve and hope it will turn out lovely. So while boy is busy, 'Brother' is here to accompany me.

DIY invites

This project is embarked purely out of a need to do basis. We are only sending out 14 invites for a guest list of round 30+ hence it does not make sense to get them professionally done. Think putting a personal touch to the invites seems more sincere, and these are out closest of friends, they deserve every minute of my time.

Given this period is very hectic at my workplace, this is the best effort I could put in to make the cards. The cards don't look fantastic, but they have my favourite compononets in them: Pink and lace.

Didn't show the back of the card, cause it has all the details of the invite. Hee.

DIY Tiara

Surfin around etsy you'd find loads of beautiful accessories, jewllery, vintage clothes and bags... What I found recently is this amazingly creative seller whichgoose, who makes headbands, tiaras and haircombs of the most beautiful designs!

This is one design she custom made...it is soooooooo beautiful!!!!

This is the one that captured my attention and inspired me.

Having my ROM coming up soon, I did not want to risk having ship an item from US over in such a short time so I decided to DIY my own tiara. But of course, my lack of creativity and style showed obviously through my design. Now I wonder if I should still wear my tiara on my ROM or just go for some very safe flower hairpins I bought from Accessorise.
